History of Turnstone

Turnstone was founded in 1943 as the Allen County Society for Crippled Children. The agency began as an educational program with volunteers providing a bedside educational program for six children with special needs. Through the years, the agency and its programs grew, and a new facility was found to house both the budding children's program, as well as a new program for adults with disabilities. Today Turnstone thrives as a center with therapy for children and adults, adaptive sports and recreation programs, child care, adult day and memory care services and a fully accessible health and wellness center with two warm water therapy pools. In addition, Turnstone is a Gold Level Paralympic Sport Club and offers something for anyone with a disability.

Joining the Endeavor Games

Turnstone's mission is to provide therapeutic, education, wellness, sport and recreational programs to empower people with disabilities.

At Turnstone, we're constantly energizing, motivating and growing. Because of that, there's always the challenge of staying focused on what it is we do best and for whom. Yet, all our efforts are carefully focused on fulfilling our mission to enhance the lives of people with disabilities and their families.

In partnership with UCO, the Turnstone Endeavor Games was the first event to be a part of the Endeavor Games. These Games provide athletes in the surrounding areas a competition that looks and feels like the original in Edmond, Oklahoma. The 2020 Turnstone Endeavor Games are scheduled for Friday, April 24-Sunday, April 26.
